The St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect Council sponsors several special events and fundraisers which highlight our mission and promote awareness of the problem of child abuse and neglect in our community.
Radio First and the St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect Council join together annually for a weeklong event at the Birchwood Mall. Chuck Santoni camps out on the roof of the Mall for the entire week. Our Council staff and volunteers staff an information area in the mall during this week in coordination with the radio programming for the event.
This years event is in the planning stages - check back for more information. This event has been a huge success in the past - we look forward to all participants joining to help us make it a even greater success this year.
In 2009, with the help of our generous community, we raised over $95,000 for the prevention of child abuse and neglect and advocacy against child abuse. We would like to thank all of the community members who participated to make Roof-Sit 2009 so memorable. The great weather and bright sunshine made for a wonderful event.
The St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect Council appreciates all donations in support of the belief that
"It shouldn't hurt to be a child".

Our fantastic Dinner For Kids Sake will be held this year at the glorious Fore Lakes Golf Club and Banquet Center.
This event is a spectacular celebration. The Theme for this years dinner is "Black and White." It will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Dinner, music, a fabulous auction, and many attendees having a wonderful time will fill the evening hours.
We want to thank all those who have contributed to our auctions and all those who joined us in our celebration of our 25 years of work in the community at last year's dinner.
The committee is working very hard again this year to bring you another fabulous event! Contact the Council Office to volunteer for this event!
In January of each year, all board members of the St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect Council join together for review of the prior year's accomplishments and a preview of the coming year's plans for the Council.
The meeting brings together all board members and community partners who have significant involvement with our mission.
This years meeting was held at the Thomas Edison Inn, where we all met for a fabulous breakfast on Thursday, January 4, 2010. We heard from our Executive Director, Sally Straffon, Michael McCartan,CMH Director, and the President of our Board, Debra Johnson.
We were all encouraged by their remarks to continue our cause in that . . . "It shouldn't hurt to be a child".
Our Annual Awards Luncheon will be held on March 18, 2010 at Alexanders in Marysville.
Our luncheon is always a wonderful celebration, featuring a special speaker and honoring several outstanding community child advocates.
Our Child Advocate for 2009 was Marcy Kuehn, Port Huron Police Detective.
Our Community Child Advocate for 2009 was the Principal of Michigamme Elementary School, Domingo Ruiz.
We are proud to honor both our Child Advocate and our Community Child Advocate for their contributions to the community. We look forward to honoring our 2010 Advocates!
