Sexual Harassment is any deliberate or repeated sexual behavior that is unwelcome, as well as other sex-related behaviors that are hostile, offensive, or degrading.
- More than two-thirds of all boys and half of all girls say they have been sexually harassed at some time in their life.
- Only 7% of students who have been harassed report the incident to a teacher. If they tell anyone at all, most students(63%) tell a friend.
- Many students would rather miss school than face the person who is harassing them.
- Most students report that being sexually harassed makes them feel less sure of themselves.
Statistics say: One out of six boys will experience some form of sexual harassment by the age of 18.
Usually the perpetrator is a male.
The same examples of sexual harassment apply to male students, they may be more reluctant to call it for what it is as they don't want their masculinity called into question.
Sexual Assault is FORCED Sexual Contact
- By the end of high school between 10 to 25% of girls and 4 to 10% of boys are estimated to have been sexually abused. Many at the hands of those they live with, some from dates, peers, bosses
- Teens are 3 1/2 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than the general public.
- 85% of sexual assault happens by someone you know and trust like a friend, a date, a family member, pastor, coach or someone you may have seen once or twice.
